Patent drawings or patent illustrations refer to sketches of the invention that a patent applicant is required to include in an application for a patent. These may be diagrams, flow charts, graphs and other related illustrations that the applicant uses to explain the design, workings and outstanding features of the invention. Thus, patent drawings are not just aesthetic depictions, but they have to meet certain requirements and rules of the relevant patent offices regarding the presentation of information.
